For anglers seeking solitude, unpressured trout and incredible scenery, a guided float fishing trip offers opportunities that can’t be duplicated while wade fishing. Both half day and full day float trips offer the chance to explore world-class trout fisheries on three different rivers, which include the Gold Medal stretches of the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers and the fantastic fishing found right in our backyard on the Eagle River. A guided float fishing trip offers access to more remote areas that can only be reached by boat and gives anglers a chance to cover miles of productive water in a single day. Because of the advantages of fly fishing from a boat, float trips are often the choice of expert anglers, but are also a great option for beginners. Float trips are also a fantastic way for angling partners such as parents and children, husbands and wives or good friends to share a day on the river together.
Every guided float trip includes a drift boat or fishing raft, a clean pair of Simms waders and wading boots, a cooler full of bottled water, fly rods and reels, and an experienced, friendly fly fishing guide. All full-day trips include a freshly prepared lunch. Lunch can be added to any half-day trip for a fee. Half-day float trips last up to four hours, 3/4 day trips last up to six hours, and full-day trips provide you with more than six hours of fishing time on the water.
Guided trips do not include your Colorado fishing license or guide gratuity. All trip participants over the age of 16 are required to carry a valid Colorado fishing license with them at all times while fishing. We strongly encourage float trip participants to purchase their license online prior to the trip in order to save time and get on the river sooner.
Guided fly fishing trips are not weather dependent, and afternoon rain showers are common throughout the summer months. Please be prepared with socks, sunglasses, a hat, and a light rain jacket.
At Vail Valley Anglers, safety is our top priority, which is why drugs are not permitted on any of our fly fishing trips. We reserve the right to cancel any trip that becomes unsafe or unfishable. We will reschedule your class for a future date and try to make accommodations to your schedule, taking into consideration that the summer season is our busiest time of the year.
